Entering Herhús – INTO Festival – Siglufjörður 2024

A new video/song installation made for the INTO Festival run by Alþýðuhúsið á Akureyri, curated by Aðalheiður S. Eysteinsdóttir and Will Owen. The international festival was a part of Reykjavík Art Festival this year. I got to make an installation into the Herhús Art residency, a beautiful old house close to the see. I worked with a song called Dagný, with a text saying the summer comes in from the sea and planned to make recordings the sea behind the house and bring it in. The working week in June before the opening a crazy winterstorm with snow caught us in the north by surprise so the work became quite ironic. The final touch of the installation was when Anders Visti from Denmark accompanied me playing the old organ in the house. The singing or humming is made in one take recorded with the visuals and played from many players so that harmony occurs at moments in otherwise a surrounding cacaophony.

Performed in the exhibition “Boekie Woekie & friends” in Arti et Amicitae, Amsterdam in January 2024. https://www.arti.nl/tentoonstelling/boekiewoekie/

In the performance Arna plays with the video/projection technique in a simple way using it to try to get in sink with herself through singing in harmony. Arna has travelled with this work, or versions of it, since 1989 in an exhibition in Hoorn NL. There is a trail of works, a little bit like the breadcrumbs Gretel left in her steps to be able to know the way home.
